LAIKO CELEBRATES NATIONAL LAITY WEEK

Once again we will be celebrating the annual observance of the National Laity Week on September 23 to 30, 2007 to promote lay apostolate and to honor San Lorenzo Ruiz and Blessed Pedro Calungsod, the Patron Saints of the Catholic Laity in the Philippines.

The Organizing Committee of this year’s Laity Week Celebration has adopted the theme: “LAIKO IN ACTION”. This year’s theme is a celebration of the LAITY’S contribution to the evangelization of the “unchurched” in our faith community, particularly in your Diocese.  It is a week-long celebration and recognition of the efforts contributed by the different “communities of renewal” and “church mandated organizations.”    

Suggested diocesan or parish activities include, among others; the following as found in Matthew 21(Corporal works of Mercy)

1. Visitation to the sick in the community and hospitals;
2. Visitation to the prisoners;
3. Distribution of goods to the needy;
4. Medical & Dental Mission.

      Also, we suggest a “festive fair” be conducted where communities of renewal responsible for evangelization of families, housing for the poor, church services, including volunteers are showcased.

     Let us celebrate the LAITY’S response to the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.
